What is it?

Gastric band  is a restrictive bariatric surgery procedure in which an inflatable silicone band is placed around the top of the stomach to create a smaller pouch. This slows the pace of food and produces the sensation of fullness more quickly. In this surgical procedure, the digestive track is not altered.

How is it done?

The gastric band is carefully placed around the upper gastric track. This band can be easily tightened by injecting a saline solution into the band via a small access port placed under the skin, with a thin specialized needle.
