Gastric Band

gastric band
What is it?
Gastric band is a restrictive bariatric surgery procedure in which an inflatable silicone band is placed around the top of the stomach to create a smaller pouch. This slows the pace of food and produces the sensation of fullness more quickly. In this surgical procedure, the digestive track is not altered.
How is it done?
The gastric band is carefully placed around the upper gastric track. This band can be easily tightened by injecting a saline solution into the band via a small access port placed under the skin, with a thin specialized needle.
Some facts:
A gastric band limits the amount of food that can be consumed during a single meal.
The digestive track is not altered. Therefore, all nutrients are absorbed by the body.
Weight loss goes from 28 to 87%.
The band can be adjusted to increase or decrease the restriction.
It is a reversible procedure.
